When it comes to Super Smash Bros mods, there’s been a lot of focus on the newer games. From Brawl’s modding scene and websites (like Kitty Corps Meow Mix) to Super Smash Bros 4 custom characters and music, it seems like Melee and the original have almost been entirely left in the dust.
But now, it seems things are changing. Behold Super Smash Bros 64 Revolution, a brand new mod of the original Super Smash Bros with new characters and stages! Designed by ROM Hacking.net user ‘leyenda_roja’, the game seems to be to the original game what the likes of Project M were for Brawl.
As you can see, it’s only just been started, and Falco and Bomberman have already been hacked into the game as new characters! It’s a pretty interesting move given the game has barely even been modded in the past.
Smash Remix is the most ambitious ROM hack of Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo 64 made by a large team of modelers, musicians, stage designers and testers. The latest version as of this post is v0.9.7 (06 Dec 2020), with eight new characters and too many new stages to count. SSBU +102 ↺24 Super Smash Bros. TF2 +67 ↺17 Team Fortress 2. Either way, this should be a great mod for anyone who liked the original Super Smash Bros and wants to see characters and stages from later games revisited in the style of the Nintendo 64 classic. Absolutely incredible!
